ENR Magazine performs an annual survey of California’s construction firms, providing rankings for general contracting, specialty contracting, engineering, architecture, planning and studies. The Top California Contractors list ranks general contractors, both publicly and privately held, based on construction-specific revenue earned in California.

HHCI Nears Completion of Eagle Canyon

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 05, 2014

HHCI Nears the Completion of Eagle Canyon Debris Basin


Riverside, CA – August 05, 2014 – HHCI is nearing the completion of the Eagle Canyon Debris Basin located in Cathedral City, California, in an area prone to heavy flood damage. Although the debris basin is not yet complete, Robert Cullen, Chief of Design and Construction Division for the Riverside County Flood Control & Water Conservation District stated that “the debris basin is completely functional and essentially we have 100 year protection right now.”

The Eagle Canyon Debris Basin, an 85-foot structure, is capable of retaining up to 185-acre feet of water and 14-acre feet of debris. It can also handle an inflow of water equal to 50-swimming pools every minute.

HHCI is proud to be a key partner with the County of Riverside Flood Control & Water Conservation District on this important project.

HHCI’s Safety Award Count Reaches 22


Riverside, CA – June 25, 2014 – Hal Hays Construction, Inc. (HHCI) earned 2 additional NAVFAC STAR (Safety Through Awards and Recognition) Awards for its outstanding safety performance during the execution of Repair Airfield Lighting System and Signage, MCAS Yuma, AZ and Repair Waste Water Storage Tanks at TAPS 1, 2, and 3, MCB Camp Pendleton, CA. This achievement brings HHCI’s total STAR Safety Award count to a total of 22, having earned 3 within the last month.

star awardThe STAR Safety Award provides notable merit to companies which have demonstrated corporate proactive safety procedure throughout the life of a contract and outstanding safety performance during the execution of a project. In order to attain a STAR Safety Award a contractor must complete a project with the below requirements:

  • Zero DART incidents throughout the life of the contract
  • No significant ($10,000) contractor or government damage for entire length of the contract
  • No safety non-compliance notices or stop work orders
  • No findings identified during Occupational Safety & Health Administration compliance inspections
  • Minimum Overall Above Average performance evaluation – including quality
  • Cumulative average score of 90% or better on the contract safety self-evaluation checklist process where required by contract

HHCI Awarded $9.2M Facility Construction Project for Caltrans

HHCI Awarded $9.2M Facility Construction Project for Caltrans


Riverside, CA – April 28, 2014 – Caltrans awarded Hal Hays Construction, Inc. (HHCI) a $9.2M contract for the construction of new facility maintenance buildings in El Centro, CA.  Project scope will include: construction site management; SWPPP; excavation and backfill; erosion control; landscaping; irrigation system; class 4 aggregate subbase; asphalt paving; structural concrete; facility construction including reinforcing steel and wall stem; electrical systems; and fencing.

caltransThe purpose of the project is to relocate the El Centro Maintenance Station from the intersection of SR-86 and Adams Avenue to a new commercial/industrial site at 1102 Montenegro Way. The new facility will include: a regional office, vehicle maintenance shop, washrack, special programs facility, warehouse, parts departments, fuel island, and covered storage areas, and maintenance office.

HHCI is excited to take part in this facility project and looks forward to providing Caltrans with another on-time and 100% accident-free project completion.

The project scopes will include: selective site demolition; cast-in-place concrete; structural steel framing; steel decking; epoxy coatings; electrical work; grading; trenching and backfilling; excavation and compaction; pavement repair; site concrete work; pavement markings; chain link fencing and gates; and site water distribution systems.

HHCI Awarded $2.4M Palomar Community College CDC & Baseball Field Project


Riverside, CA – March 3, 2014 – Swinerton Constructors awarded Hal Hays Construction, Inc. (HHCI) a $2.4M contract for Palomar Community College’s child development center & baseball field. The project will consist of mass earthwork. The scope will include: SWPPP and BMP implementation; blasting; mass excavation; traffic control; backfill material; crushing and processing of rock; and site erosion control. The project will encompass 5 acres of earthwork for the child development center and 8 acres of earthwork for the Baseball Field.

palomar collegePalomar College’s Child Development Center provides care and rearing services for the children of students, faculty & staff, and the community. Palomar College’s baseball field is the home of Palomar College’s intercollegiate baseball team, the Comets.
